A native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, John Solie attended the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and is a graduate of the Los Angeles Art Center.
He is a member of the Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles and New York. He is also a Board Member of the American Society of Portrait Artists. He has been invited to become a member of the Mountain Oyster Club, a prestigious country club for Western artists in Tuscon, Arizona.
John Solie has become famous for the incredible images he has captured on canvas, images renowned for their ability to reflect the very essence of the subject. Much of his career in the commercial illustration field has been in painting portraits and sculpting famous people. He has also been in demand for book covers and book illustrations and has painted over 200 movie posters over the years. He is currently working in the field of western art.
From Southern California, Solie and his wife, Shirley, relocated to Seal Rock, on the central Oregon coast, where he painted and sculpted in a three-story barn-shaped studio called "Wind Rush" for over a decade. They later moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they reside today, to be closer to their grandchildren.
