John Solie is very proud to be a member of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Art Team.
Seven of his paintings are on view at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA commissioned Solie to paint his impressions of the launch and landing of STS-26, the first space shuttle launch following the Challenger disaster.
He has painted commemorative portraits of the Challenger Crew, including Christa McAuliffe. Prints of this moving work are available through this website.
In October 1992, he was invited by NASA to view and paint the last space launch of the Soviet Union.
In order to paint images of one of man's most sophisticated technological marvels, Solie is one of the very few people invited inside the "clean" room to view and photograph the Hubble Space Telescope during its construction in Sunnyvale, California.
